New Starters 2020

Firstly, welcome to Misterton Church of England First School. We are so pleased that you have joined our very special school and we look forward to seeing you in September. Due to the current Covid-19 situation that we find ourselves in, we will be adapting our normal induction process. We believe in gaining a strong understanding of our children and parents.  As a school we focus on transferring the secure attachment your child feels towards you to the teachers in school, so they are able to settle quickly and confidently into school life. This process will be harder to achieve this year, but we are determined to do our very best to provide your child with the best transition into our school.

New Starters Update:

Just a quick reminder of the two taster sessions next week. I have also added some more details that might help answer any questions.

The two afternoons will run on the 3rd and 4th of September 1:15-3:15pm. We ask that you enter the school from the front door, you will then be guided through the EYFS class and out to the outside area. This is weather permitted and could change depending on the circumstances; we may decide to use the classroom.

We would like to invite parents to stay for the first afternoon, Thursday 3rd September. We ask that parents come wearing a face covering. We will have hand-washing areas on site and will direct you to these on the day. We will also give you a briefing on our rules, toilet facilities and emergency procedures.

On Friday 4th September Parents will be dropping off their children and leaving them in our care. We ask that you collect them at 3:15 from outside Oak Class in the outdoor area . There will be a sign post indicating where parents should start to wait. Please be mindful and leave a 2meter space between families both when dropping off and picking up.

We ask that no more than two parents attend the taster day to reduce the number of adults on site. We understand how important the first day is for your child and hope that you get a good feel for the care and passion we have for your child’s education.

Children will need to be in full uniform during both the taster days and this will continue as they start school on the 7th September, details of our school uniform are on our website. Your child will need to bring a drink and a coat.

On Monday 7th September you will need to enter the school from the side door entrance and drop your child in class at 8:45. Collection will be from the same door at 12:00. If you have opted for your child to stay all day, you will need to collect your child from outside Oak Class in the outdoor area at 3:15.

Please don’t forget the week beginning Monday 14th September, timings for those children attending for part days will change. The children will stay for lunch and the pickup will be 1:30 from the side door entrance.

Children will stay for full day’s week beginning 21st September. You will then need to pick your child up at 3:15 from outside Oak Class in the outdoor area.

If we have any difficulties supporting your child in school with settling in, we will contact you. We continue to follow government guidelines on the Covid-19 situation, keeping children and adults safe.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email the school. We are looking forward to meeting your child and getting to know them.

Please see below a copy of the letter emailed out to all our new starters.
